Help, please! Need movie recs

A family member is ill and will be out of work for a bit, needing a bit of distraction. My mother-in-law and I have very different movie tastes and I'd like to ask for recommendations.

Movies she likes:

Emelie
The Visitor
Outsourced

She likes independent films and doesn't mind foreign films (but my father-in-law complains about subtitles so no subtitles are preferred).

Any suggestions are appreciated.

(I'm sending her my due South sets because if she likes Northern Exposure, she'll like it. :) )

I don't see how you could go wrong renting her an MST3K box set and seeing how she likes it. If she doesn't, no biggie. But if she does, ohhh boy does that open up hours and hours and entertainment for her. She may need some palate cleansers like "Rififi" and "Cool Hand Luke" and whatnot to clear out the funnies in between, but if movie mockery is a hit that'll take up some good time.

But then if she's looking for expansion rather than pop filler, I'd proffer the following:

Murderball
101 Reykjavik

Oh man, hard list to go off, but those are just a few I'd throw out there. If you have any more specific examples of what she digs I can maybe toss some more on the pile.

The Royal Tannenbaums
Metropolitan ( by Whit Stillman)
Anything from the 70s by Woody Allen

If she has a taste for a bit of darkness, maybe add:

Memento
Being John Malkovitch

If some subtitles are acceptable:

Le Dîner de Cons ("The Dinner Game")
La Cage aux Folles (so much better than the dreadful American remake!)
