I agree the classic suit needed an upgrade and while the new suit reflects the need for extra body protection they went way to far with it. As far as the story goes; it appears to be worse than the suit designs. Go figure. This was thought up by the folks who brought you SYFY. And where the hell is Lance Henrikson? He should be in there somewhere.
My problem with it is the mystic of The Phantom is that it seams like it the same man over the years(think last time i way the strip they where on #13). If you change the suit to much you lose that. Think if went more "Batman" then "stilsuit" with it, I could live with it. Now with that said....yeah the movie will most likely suck.
Exactly. Tthe Phantom mystic was doomed from the start. How the hell are you gonna make a white guy the great keeper of the jungle? The same with Tarzan? We all know he would just log and strip mine the whole place for ivory, wood, diamonds and cheap labor.
Man, none of these suit-and-tied dickheads understand the idea of the pulp hero at all, and it's a shame. The Phantom has basically two skills: punch things 'til they stop moving temporarily or shoot things 'til they stop moving permanently. He doesn't need nanosynthetictechnobabble suits. He needs a decent bit of Kevlar, some capable jungle boots, and a pair of holsters. The mask is there to make him seem immortal, rather than the latest in a line of succession, so changing it is, as others have noted, completely ridiculous.
Treating old-school pulp-era heroes the same way you treat major comic characters from the Big Two is a recipe for disaster and a sure sign that somebody at the rudder just doesn't fucking get it.
